I happened to know the story of a Buddhist monk Tik Gwang-tuk who burned himself for Vietnam during my visit to Vietnam. I remember when I was in college, I heard suicidal of a Vietnamese monk in an insignificant way. Perhaps the Park Chung Hee regime did not want such a information to be reported favorably.
The impact on the development of Vietnam was absolutely critical. It is said that this monk’s heart is not burned and preserved until now.
Aside from right or wrong about his action, I think that the purpose of the Buddhist priesthood based on the pure devotion of love not hate. Also, I think that it is based on the wisdom not on distorted viewpoint on real world. It is true that such judgments were correct and contributed to the present development of Vietnam.
